A bare mantel in fall is a missed opportunity, but nobody has time to build a magazine spread. My shortcut: one pre-lit garland, laid across the mantel, switched on. Done.

I would grab this 2-pack of 6-foot maple leaf garlands with the lights already wired in – warm LEDs tucked into the leaves, no separate light strand to wrestle. Two strands means one for the mantel and one for the stair rail or TV console, or doubled up for a fuller look on a wide mantel.
The move that makes it look styled instead of store-bought: do not stretch it tight. Let it dip in the middle, pile it slightly at the ends, then add two or three things you already own – a candle, a small pumpkin, a framed photo. Ten minutes, finished mantel.
One detail worth knowing before you set this up: each strand takes two AA batteries, which are not included. The lights have a six-hour timer and turn back on 18 hours later, so start them at the hour you actually want the mantel lit. The wired stems bend into shape; I would arrange them loosely before switching the lights on.
The mantel scene above is illustrative, not the exact listing photo. The battery case is not waterproof, even though the garland is described for indoor or outdoor use, so keep the case protected. Below is this post’s product illustration; click it to check the current listing photos.
